The DIKE Research Group is pleased to announce the publication of a new contribution by our Co-Director, Prof. Marco Giacalone, in the CRal – Blog sobre Consum Responsable i Resolució Alternativa de Litigis, entitled “ADR en Europa: la simplificación de los procedimientos de consumo y proyectos SCAN/DEUCE.”
OVERVIEW OF THE CONTRIBUTION
How can European consumer dispute resolution become more accessible, understandable, and effective in an increasingly digital environment?
This is the central question explored in the contribution, which examines the evolution of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) within the European Union. Moving beyond a purely technological perspective, the analysis argues that effective access to justice depends not only on the availability of digital tools, but also on procedures that are clear, user-oriented, and capable of supporting consumers throughout the dispute resolution process.
The contribution also presents the European research projects SCAN and DEUCE, coordinated by the DIKE Research Group, as practical examples of this approach. These initiatives seek to simplify cross-border procedures by improving the accessibility of legal information, supporting the enforcement of European claims, and developing digital tools that help users better understand and navigate complex legal procedures.
More broadly, the publication reflects on the future of European digital justice, emphasising that innovation should focus not only on digitising procedures, but also on strengthening users' ability to understand, exercise, and effectively enforce their rights through transparent, accessible, and trustworthy justice infrastructures.
