On February 3, 2026, Prof. Marco Giacalone and Andrea Filippo Ferraris took part in the Semaine de la Digitalisation 2026, at the University of Lausanne where they delivered a session on “Digitalisation and Access to Justice.”
The event took place from 2 February to 5 February at the University of Lausanne and was jointly organised with the University of Padua. The Semaine de la Digitalisation is an interdisciplinary academic programme bringing together scholars and practitioners to explore the impact of digital technologies on law, society, and education. Through lectures, workshops, and discussions, the initiative provides a platform to reflect on the challenges and opportunities posed by digital transformation.
Their intervention focused on how digital technologies are reshaping access to justice, particularly in the context of cross-border legal procedures. They explored the potential of digital tools to simplify legal processes, enhance efficiency, and improve accessibility for both legal practitioners and end-users.
At the same time, the speakers addressed the challenges associated with digitalisation, including risks of unequal access, the need for robust legal safeguards, and the importance of ensuring fairness and transparency in digitally mediated systems.
Their contribution formed part of a broader programme that brought together experts from various disciplines to reflect on the impact of artificial intelligence and digital transformation on law and society. Through their analysis, Prof. Giacalone and Andrea Filippo Ferraris highlighted both the opportunities and the complexities involved in leveraging technology to strengthen access to justice.
