On 19–20 February 2026, the Final Conference of the DEUCE Project (Digitalising EU Cross-Border Enforcement for Consumers: Pathways to Effective Justice in the Digital Single Market) took place at Hoek 38 in Brussels and online.
The conference marked the conclusion of the DEUCE Project and brought together academics, legal practitioners, judges, representatives of EU institutions, consumer organisations, and policymakers for two days of in-depth discussion and exchange.
Across four thematic panels, speakers addressed central challenges and developments in:
Consumer protection and consumer remedies in the digital age
Digital and algorithmic enforcement of consumer rights
Liability and trust in AI-assisted enforcement systems
Digitalisation of civil enforcement and cross-border cooperation
EU cross-border enforcement instruments, including the European Order for Payment and the European Enforcement Order
National and comparative perspectives on digital civil procedure
The discussions highlighted both the opportunities and the regulatory, procedural, and ethical challenges associated with the digital transformation of enforcement mechanisms within the European Union.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all speakers and panel chairs for their valuable contributions, as well as to all participants who joined us in person and online. The high level of engagement and the quality of the debate contributed significantly to the success of the event.
The Final Conference represents an important milestone in the DEUCE Project’s efforts to explore pathways towards more effective, digitally enabled cross-border enforcement and strengthened access to justice in the Digital Single Market.
