This week, the historic Grote Markt in Brussels transformed once again into a stage of celebration, pride, and emotion, as hundreds of graduates gathered to mark one of the most memorable milestones in their academic journey. The Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), together with Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB), Haute École Francisco Ferrer, the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Brussels, and the City of Brussels, hosted the joint graduation ceremony for the Class of 2025 — a vibrant event bringing together over 2,200 master’s students and their families and friends.
This annual tradition celebrates not only the completion of academic studies but also the beginning of new paths in professional, civic, and personal life. The atmosphere on the Grote Markt was filled with pride, joy, and gratitude, also as students from the faculties of Law, Criminology, and Notarial Studies celebrated their well-earned success.
“The world needs their warm, colourful, sometimes rebellious — but above all, powerful — voices,” as one of the messages shared during the ceremony reminded the audience. These words perfectly capture the spirit of the new generation of graduates who are ready to engage critically, act ethically, and contribute meaningfully to society.
Among those honoured was Dr. Gioia Arnone, a valued member of the DIKE Research Group, who was formally awarded her "Doctorate in Law".
Her doctoral journey stands as a testament to intellectual rigor, commitment to innovation, and passion for advancing legal scholarship in the evolving digital and transnational landscape.
The members of DIKE Research Group were proudly present at the ceremony to celebrate this achievement together with the broader academic community. Dr. Arnone’s accomplishment embodies the research group’s mission: to foster interdisciplinary excellence and to inspire scholars to contribute to a fairer and more resilient society.
As we look toward the future, the Class of 2025 carries forward the values that define the VUB community — openness, critical inquiry, and social engagement. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all graduates and wish them courage, wisdom, and success in the new adventures that lie ahead.
Congratulations, Class of 2025 — and congratulations, Dr. Arnone!
