Since the public release of ChatGPT, Artificial Intelligence has rapidly expanded into the legal domain, promising to transform how people access justice. Yet billions worldwide still face unresolved legal problems because they lack the time, money, or knowledge to navigate complex court systems.
The AI for Access to Justice, Dispute Resolution, and Data Access Workshop at JURIX 2025 will bring together legal technologists, researchers, and practitioners to explore how AI can help close this global access to justice gap. The event will take place on December 9, 2025, in Turin, Italy, as part of the annual JURIX Conference on Legal Knowledge and Information Systems. The workshop will be held in hybrid format, enabling participation both in-person and online.
Aims and Topics
The workshop focuses on three interlinked themes:
Data for Access to Justice: building and sharing high-quality legal datasets for research and AI development.
AI for Access to Justice: exploring systems that support unrepresented litigants and legal aid programs.
AI for Dispute Resolution: examining how intelligent systems can support courts, mediation, and online dispute settlement.
Participants will discuss innovations ranging from AI-assisted legal advice and defense document automation to retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) models designed for transparent and explainable legal reasoning.
The initiative is a joint effort between leading international labs and universities, including:
Maastricht Law and Tech Lab, Stanford Legal Design Lab, Suffolk LIT Lab, Swansea University, Tabled.io, University of Turin, and Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

Workshop Format and Participation
The day will combine academic paper sessions, interactive dataset-building exercises, and panel discussions.
Topics will include the availability of open legal data under proper copyright licences, AI ethics and fairness, and practical case studies of dispute resolution technologies in real-world legal contexts.
Researchers are invited to submit:
Short papers (5–10 pages) or
Demo proposals (1–2 pages)
Submissions should follow the CEUR-WS (Ceurart) format and are due by November 17, 2025, with notifications by November 24, 2025. Accepted works will be presented during the workshop and may be considered for inclusion in CEUR-WS proceedings.
By fostering collaboration across law, data science, and AI, this workshop aims to identify practical, ethical, and scalable solutions to make justice systems more inclusive and efficient.
It will also set the foundation for an international network dedicated to sharing open legal data for AI-based access-to-justice initiatives.
