Today, in an expert workshop titled 'Navigating the DSA's procedural turn: lessons from consumer law for ODR,' Prof. Marco Giacalone joined a valuable discussion concerning the exploration of out-of-court dispute settlement within the Digital Services Act (DSA) framework, at University of Amsterdam.
The workshop, hosted by Anna van Duin and Paddy Leerssen, featured keynote addresses from Pietro Ortolani and Vanessa Mak, shedding light on the "procedure before substance" approach and the evolving landscape of consumer Online Dispute Resolution (ODR). The event delved into panel discussions that dissected the role of private enforcement and procedural justice in ODR mechanisms on various online platforms.
Prof. Giacalone emphasized the intersection of legal procedures and ODR issues in the context of the DSA. His insights, along with those of other esteemed contributors, including Catalina Goanta, Martin Husovec, Natali Helberger, Federica Casarosa, and Emma van Gelder, enriched the comprehensive examination of ODR within the digital realm.
The collaborative efforts of all participants' expertise, promise to yield practical implications, and a detailed report summarizing the findings will soon be published on the DSA Observatory website.
Prof. Giacalone's commitment to advancing discussions and fostering a deeper understanding of ODR mechanisms reflects his dedication to the evolving landscape of digital dispute resolution.
