Dr. Gioia Arnone
Biography
Dr. Gioia Arnone is an Italian lawyer, researcher, and expert in digital law, financial technologies, and the digitalisation of justice.
Dr. Arnone holds a Joint Double Ph.D. in Law from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and a Ph.D. in Entrepreneurship and Innovation from the University of Naples Parthenope. Her doctoral research explored the intersections between crowdfunding, blockchain technology, cryptocurrencies, and decentralised justice, combining legal, technological, and economic perspectives. She holds a Master's Degree in Law and a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Professions from the University of Palermo and has been admitted to the Italian Bar since 2014. She is Co-founder of the International Law Firm Arnone & Sicomo.
She has been a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Palermo, where she conducts research on the use of cryptocurrencies by organised criminal groups, with particular attention to financial crime, anti-money laundering, digital assets, and the legal implications of emerging technologies.
Her research focuses on Artificial Intelligence, blockchain technology, cryptocurrencies, smart contracts, decentralised finance (DeFi), digital justice, online dispute resolution (ODR), predictive justice, and financial regulation. She has actively participated in several European research projects funded under the EU Justice Programme, including CREA2, CREA3, DEUCE, SCAN2, IDEA, SPLIT, and TRUST-AI, contributing to the development of innovative solutions for AI-assisted justice, cross-border judicial cooperation, and the digitalisation of civil proceedings.
Dr. Arnone is the author of numerous scientific publications, including Springer monographs and articles published in leading international journals, on topics related to legal technology, FinTech, blockchain, cryptocurrencies, AI, and digital justice. She regularly presents her research at international conferences and collaborates with multidisciplinary research teams across Europe and beyond.
She is a native Italian speaker and is fluent in English, with a good working knowledge of French.
